A Guide to Camping Coup Colors


One PAIR of coups is awarded for each camp-out, whether one- or two-night.
All youths and adults registered Troop are entitled to coups.
The Scoutmaster may award special coups to recognize specific events, ex: shell casings for pistol shooting.

Shaped Coups are awarded in the color of the corresponding weather of the event (where possible).

Coup Colors

Green   Warm weather (above 40 or so) Fair Weather
Black   Warm weather (above 40) and Rain at some point
Light Blue   Cool/Cold weather (below 40) No Snow
White   Cold weather (below 40) and Snow
Clear   Temperature below zero degrees fahrenheit, burrrrr!
Yellow   Camporee
Red   Long-term Scout Camp
Orange   High Adventure
Red and White Swirl   National Camping Award
Tan   For a Cave trip, we say "Mud"
Dark Blue   Special non-camping troop activities: swims, lock-ins, movies
Gold   Troop good-turns and other service activities

Canoe   Canoe Trips (of the weather-appropriate color)
Boot   Hikes of 5 miles or more (of the weather-appropriate color)
Star   Military bases and governmental sites
